The goal of “We The People Project” is to create a conversation concerning what I believe  “We The People” meant to the founders of our nation as apposed to what “We The People” seems to mean now to our elected representatives.

There is no doubt in my mind that when our nation was born that the democratic form of government that was chosen by the founders was a representative democracy. The representatives would be elected to serve the people. These elected representatives would serve the needs of the people as well as do their best to voice the people’s concerns. Public Service was the duty of those that chose to run for an elected position. Being a Public Servant meant going to whatever meetings were taking place for the expressed purpose of voicing the electorate’s concerns and making sure that the discussion and decisions of the government body they were part of went in the direction that The People wanted to go, not the direction that the elected representatives wanted to go.

I believe the fundamental weakness in today’s governmental bodies at all levels, in each of the branches and in every state in our nation is the lack of public service and the lack of public representation of all the people.

The time has come for the people to remind the people they elected to do the job they are suppose to do. That means the people need to speak up. The people need to vote and, if necessary, to change elected officials when it is obvious they are no longer serving the people that elected them.

Representative Democracy only works when “We The People” are really represented. It is the duty of all of the people to get involved in the process. I believe our government is not working the way it needs to work . “We The People” need to fix it. Our government is not going to fix itself.
