Nominations To The Supreme Court

10/28/18

Yesterday, October 27, 2018, Was a monumental day for Supreme Court Nominations. Unfortunately it was monumental for all the wrong reasons. From a Constitutional point of view the process is the process. The process was not the problem. The participants threw dignity, integrity and professionalism out the window. Instead Senators from both major political parties from the very beginning turned what should have been a question and answer period to determine if the candidate, Judge Brett Cavanaugh, was qualified and beyond reproach to fill the vacancy on the US Supreme Court into a strong arm battle between the two major political parties which once again proved to all that were watching and to the world that our elected officials, in my view, are incapable of fulfilling there duties as representatives of the people that put them there.  The spectacle that should have been a hearing to clarify any issues concerning Judge Cavanaugh’s professional as well as personal integrity and capability to fill the open seat on the US Supreme Court turned immediately to one more power struggle between the self proclaimed guardians of the US Government. If anyone in the audience, anyone watching on the television or viewing the hearing over the internet had any doubt as to why a major governmental replacement of our elected officials is absolutely necessary this spectacle was one more example in a long line of examples of what the real problem is in our government and what the only solution to the problem is. It was obvious to me and I believe anyone else that the real purpose of the hearing by the Judiciary Committee was for the Senators on both sides to take as many shots as possible at each other. The two individuals testifying before the committee, Judge Cavanaugh and Dr. Blasey-Ford were reduced to nothing more then pawns weaponized to give partisan politicians the opportunity to ridicule each other. Many people might say at this point,”What do you expect?” My answer is clear. I expect and “We The People” deserve and demand that are representatives represent us in a matter that is in line with why the elected officials are there. As important as this hearing was and as important as filling the vacancy on the Supreme Court is, “We The People” have a right to demand representation of the highest degree possible without the nonsense of self absorbed power brokers attempting to show everyone how important they believe they are. For Doctor Blasey-Ford, she demonstrated to me that she was testifying to tell what she knew and what she believed to be true to the best of her knowledge no more no less. For Judge Cavanaugh, he was attempting to prove to the committee that he was the person that should be confirmed for the vacancy of the US Supreme Court. I do not, however,  believe that Judge Cavanaugh’s attacks on certain members of the committee, the Democratic Party, claims of planned and well funded character assassinations were productive. I expected an individual that may well be the next Supreme Court Justice to be placed on the Highest Court in our nation to rise above all this nonsense regardless of the cannon fodder that was throne at him and stand tall as the potential Justice I would expect. I didn’t see that and it was disappointing to me.

“We The People” need to take control of our government. This  Democracy of ours is not a spectator sport we must participate. We must vote and we must demand better representation than we are currently receiving. Our government will only work well if we set the course. The time to do that is now!
